Rangda, Ratu Leak dalam Mitologi Bali

Rangda adalah ratu dari para leak dalam mitologi Bali. Makhluk yang menakutkan ini diceritakan sering menculik dan memakan anak kecil serta memimpin pasukan penganut sihir jahat melawan Barong, yang merupakan simbol kekuatan baik.

Menurut etimologinya, kata Rangda yang dikenal di Bali berasal dari Bahasa Jawa Kuno yaitu dari kata Randa yang berarti Janda. Rangda adalah sebutan janda dari golongan Tri Wangsa yaitu  Waisya, Ksatria, Brahmana. Sedangkan dari golongan Sudra disebut Balu dan kata Balu dalam bahasa Bali alusnya adalah Rangda.

Perkembangan selanjutnya, istilah Rangda untuk janda semakin jarang kita dengar, karena dikhawatirkan menimbulkan kesan tidak enak mengingat wujud Rangda yang 'aeng' (seram) dan menakutkan serta identik dengan orang yang mempunyai ilmu kiri (pengiwa). Hal ini terutama kita dapatkan dalam pertunjukan-pertunjukan cerita rakyat. Dengan kata lain, ada kesan rasa takut, tersinggung dan malu bila dikatakan bisa neluh nerangjana (ngeleak). Sesungguhnya pengertian di atas lebih banyak diilhami cerita-cerita rakyat yang di dalamnya terdapat unsur Rangda. Cerita yang paling besar pengaruhnya adalah Calonarang.

Mitos Rangda

Diceritakan bahwa kemungkinan besar Rangda berasal dari ratu Mahendradatta yang hidup di pulau Jawa pada abad yang ke-11. Ia diasingkan oleh raja Dharmodayana karena dituduh melakukan perbuatan sihir terhadap permaisuri kedua raja tersebut. Menurut legenda, ia membalas dendam dengan membunuh setengah kerajaan tersebut, yang kemudian menjadi miliknya serta milik putra Dharmodayana, Erlangga. Kemudian ia digantikan oleh seseorang yang bijak.

Rangda sangatlah penting bagi mitologi Bali. Pertempurannya melawan Barong atau melawan Erlangga sering ditampilkan dalam sendratari. Sendratari ini sangatlah populer dan merupakan warisan penting dalam tradisi Bali. Rangda digambarkan sebagai seorang wanita dengan rambut panjang yang acak-acakan serta memiliki kuku-kuku panjang, lidah yang menjulur panjang, dan payudara yang panjang. Wajahnya menakutkan dan memiliki taring-taring yang panjang dan tajam.

Jenis-jenis Rangda

Mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis Rangda yang berkembang di Bali amat sulit. Hal ini mengingat wujud Rangda pada umumnya adalah sama. Memang dalam cerita Calonarang ada wujud Rangda yang lain seperti Rarung, Celuluk, namun itu adalah antek-antek dari Si Calonarang dan kedudukannya lebih banyak dalam cerita-cerita bukan disakralkan. Untuk membedakan wujud Rangda adalah dengan melihat bentuk mukanya (prerai), yaitu :

Nyinga : Apabila bentuk muka Rangda itu menyerupai singa dan sedikit menonjol ke depan (munju). Sifat dari Rangda ini adalah galak dan buas.

Nyeleme : Apabila bentuk muka Rangda itu menyerupai wajah manusia dan sedikit melebar (lumbeng). Bentuk Rangda seperti ini, menunjukkan sifat yang berwibawa dan angker.

Raksasa : Apabila bentuk muka Rangda ini menyerupai wujud raksasa seperti yang umum kita lihat Rangda pada umumnya. Biasanya Rangda ini menyeramkan. (litbang bbcom/wikipedia/berbagai sumber)
